Connecting Youth
“Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)
“Every teenager needs an extended family of Christian adults – adults who can be a part of the cloud of witnesses that cheers him or her on. The church can and should be the primary vehicle through which teenagers are provided opportunities for significant dialogue and relationships with mature Christian adults.” (Paraphrased from Mark Devries’ The Family Based Youth Ministry)
Though the transition is complex, youth who continue their faith into adulthood regularly have one thing in common: meaningful relationships with Christian adults. It is these relationships for which the leaders of our young and expanding Youth Ministry at Cornerstone believe in the importance of and work hard to foster. We seek to build up our youth and to be the cloud of witnesses that sets an example and spurs our young people into growing and mature faith in Jesus Christ. Some of the ways in which we aim to accomplish this is through regular church member-hosted events, retreats, praise nights, and participation in congregational worship service.
The Way
The Way is a Sunday second hour program for high-school and older students to connect with other youth and delve into the Word of God. Class opens with God’s Word to look at context, make observations, study its meaning, and discuss applications to their lives.
Our Youth Ministry leaders meet regularly to pray for the youth, plan activities, and encourage parent involvement when possible. For more information, contact us.
